Ever wonder what makes inlines and roller skates so different besides the way they look? Why do you have to use different muscles, techniques and skills when they both have 8 wheels?
It all comes down to the orientation of the wheels.
On inlines the wheels are directly underneath the center of your foot, like an ice skate. The wheels go out past the boots, both in the front and back. This gives you great "forward/back" stability. Not so great on the "side to side stability which is why you see some folks with their knees knocked in.

On roller skates the wheels are side by side under 2 key places on your foot. First the back wheels are directly under the heel of your foot. Then the front wheels are directly under the ball of your foot (some cheaper skates will have the front wheels way in front of the ball of your foot, making it harder to be agile). The distance between the front two wheels and the back two wheels is called your WHEEL BASE Your wheel base is the proper way to size/measure a plate for a skater. Not the length of the boot. Wild huh? The folks making cheaper skates overseas dont quite know that.

Having your wheels under the ball of your foot and your heel allow you to do something SUPER important. They allow you to pivot. You can do the twist! Both on your heels and on the balls of your feet on roller skates. This is something you cannot do on inlines and why inline dance is not as popular as roller dance.
We sell both options and have a ton of knowledge to share.
