Do I Size up or Size Down in Roller Skates?

by Caroline Millicent on June 22, 2020

The short answer to this question is that most skates run in US mens shoe sizes and that you more often than not want to size down. Unless plainly stated otherwise, it is generally safe to assume this. It is ALWAYS a good idea to try on a skate in person if you get the chance, regardless of whether or not you have determined the correct fit in one kind of model from one manufacturer. Usually skates fit differently, the same way that shoes from different brands do.

If you're trying to figure out your size based off of your women's shoe size, depending on skate model/manufacturer you would go 1-2 sizes down from your regular women's shoe size. Common sizing methods for popular skates on popular brands and models are as follows:

Moxi Lolly + Moxi Jack: 1-1.5 sizes down from your ladies shoe size, matches mens size

Moxi Beach Bunny + Moxi Panther: 0.5-1 sizes down from your ladies shoe size, matches mens size

SureGrip Fame + SureGrip Boardwalk: 2 sizes down from your ladies shoe size, matches mens sizes sometimes 1 size down as needed.

SureGrip Stardust: 1 size down from your ladies shoe size, matches mens sizes.

SureGrip GT50 or GT50 Sparkle: 2 sizes down from your ladies shoe size, matches mens sizes.

Impala Roller Skates: Matches regular ladies shoe size OR goes down one size depending on foot shape as needed.

Any Riedell Brand Low Top Boot or Blue Streak, Solaris and Antik AR2's: 2-2.5 sizes down from regular ladies shoe size, matches mens shoe size.

Candi Girl Skates: 1 size down from your ladies shoe size, may match mens size, or one size up as needed.
